Lumen Vision Video

Scott mentioned this a week or so ago, but God has continued to provide for us.  Our brothers Bill Blakey, DJ Sanchez, and Ryley Marble filmed a video of Scott and I talking about the Lumen Foundation.  Bill edited it and had it ready to go for Scott’s last trip to the EFCA National Leadership Conference in Columbus.  They showed it there as an introduction to what we are doing.  We have posted it on the homepage and I will re-post it here as well.

The song in the background is written and performed by David Zimmer.  He was gracious enough to allow us to use it for our video.  David is a good brother and a very talented musician.  More of his music can be found at:   Noisetrade or  Facebook.

Here’s the video:

EFCA Highlights Lumen Foundation

Friends,

Thank you all so much for your continued prayer and support as Scott and I prepare for this exciting new work in Columbus.  As you know, Scott is out in Columbus right now at the EFCA National Leadership Conference.  I wish I could be there with him, but am in Corona working on some big things for my current ministry.

The EFCA has been posting daily updates on their website about the Leadership Conference.  Here’s the latest update…with a nice highlight of the future Lumen church plant and another church plant being done by our brothers Jay O’Brien and Gabe deGarmeaux of the Scarlet City Project.

Here’s the EFCA article.

Please continue to pray for us as we trust God and seek to diligently plan for this coming endeavor.

For His Kingdom,

Ken

National Conf Report #2

Well, I have been doing some more scouting today.  here is a map of where I have been looking and the plan for tomorrow morning.

View Columbus Scouting in a larger map

The conference has been going well and I have met a ton of great people, many of whom are excited to watch or mission  (or pain I suspect :) ).  The Lord has also provided contacts with 3 churches who are interested in looking further into being able to partner with us.  So, please pray that on this last day, we might be able to make more strong contacts before leaving. Our hope is to establish contacts with pastors who might take our mission home to their church leadership and consider being a significant financial partner for several years.

Also, I am looking forward to driving around tomorrow morning with John Stevens (our coach and a pastor/ planter from Shelby, OH) who will go out on a scouting drive with me on the areas on the map. John has much wisdom about church planting and is quickly becoming a dear brother.

I will be back in Corona tomorrow night.

Signing out from Columbus

The EFCA National Conf report

So, I am sitting here in the Hyatt in downtown Columbus with 1000+ EFCA pastors who have gathered for the national conference. For the next two days, I am dedicating all of my time making contacts and attempting to raise support with some of these Evangelical Free churches.

This afternoon, the conference will show a video featuring Ken and myself giving the mission of the Lumen Foundation. After the gatherings, I will spend time at the church planting booth getting to know people, sharing the vision and handing out our materials.

So, please pray that God will provide some strong connections with other EFCA churches.

One of the other things I have been doing is driving around various neighborhoods of Columbus, looking and praying for an understanding of where God would have us start this work. Again, your prayer for this would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, though i am including the content of this blog into an email for those who are on our mailing list, in the future (and probably multiple times this week) we are making it so that all people on our mail list will receive an email linked to our blog, every time we update it.

Be sure to go to the website and read our latest blog entries.

Please pray

In Chrsit and in Columus (in very different ways)

Logo Provision

As Scott already wrote, God provided for our video needs a few days ago.  God has continued to provide in great ways.  Through our brother, Chris Bennett, God has provided a great logo that we can use to identify the Lumen Foundation.  The great thing about this logo…it looks great, it represents our vision, and it is cool.  My logo attempts would end up looking like clip-art stick figures compared to this.  We’re thankful for Chris!

Explaining the Logo…

The cross is at the center of all that we do…as the sub-text says, we are “planting Gospel-centered churches”.

The light emanating from the cross is exactly that…the light of the Gospel.  We are not only Gospel-centered, but we have a mission.  The light represents this mission.

The points surrounding the cross represent the various church plants that the Lumen Foundation is praying will be planted in Columbus and beyond (we’re even hoping for more than 6!).  Rather than planting one church that get’s really big, our desire is to plant many churches.  We believe the light of the Gospel will better illuminate Columbus and Ohio through this type of missional planting.

The dashes connecting the large dots represent the relationship that will exist between the many churches.  Although each church will eventually be independent of the Lumen Foundation, we also hope that these churches will continue to carry the same vision and values as the Lumen Foundation and work together to bring light to Ohio.

So…there it is.  We’re very excited about what God is doing and how He is providing for this endeavor.

For His Kingdom,

Ken

Video Provision

The Lord has provided in a number of ways over the past week.  One of the latest was through some of the Northpoint brothers (DJ Sanchez, Riley Marble, Billy Blakey) who spent 4 hours doing a bunch of video work for us on Sunday night.  Its a pretty tough assignment… to somehow coax a non-awkward looking video out of the two of us that would cast vision and help inform people about the Lumen Foundation.

These guys put their really nice cameras to work that evening in downtown Riverside and are now dedicating evenings to editing our videos together.  What a blessing!  We could have never afforded to get video work like this done aside from God laying this on their hearts.

We will be planning on showing this video at the Evangelical Free Leadership Conference next week in Columbus.  Please continue to pray for us as we scramble to get our preparations done for this trip.

In Christ

Scott
